FISHKILL - Rombout Fire Company Responds to Serious Multi-Vehicle Accident Requiring Extrication and Medical Airlift

Fishkill, NY – July 23, 2025 — At approximately 09:21 PM, the Rombout Fire Company along with Town of Fishkill medic 9 and North Highlands (Putnam) were dispatched for a serious motor vehicle collision on Route 9 near Clove Rd and Carol Ln. Dispatch reported four vehicles involved with a possible patient ejected as well as another patient entrapped in a vehicle.

Upon arrival, Rombout command requested a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) be established, which added Phillipstown EMS (Putnam), Garrison EMS (Putnam), Putnam County Medic 2, City of Beacon Medic 1, Regional Medivac was contacted for a Helicopter response as well as for one on standby. Rombout Fire Chief Marino requested the Village of Fishkill be dispatched to establish a landing zone at the southern end of the Dutchess Mall.

With the arrival of Rombout 62-55, members began extrication of one patient. The extrication process took approximately 17 minutes due to the severity of the vehicle damage.

Simultaneously, EMS personnel began triaging and stabilizing patients at the scene. Due to the critical nature of the injuries sustained, two medical helicopters were dispatched to the scene, with Lifenet Air 2 transporting a patient to regional trauma center for advanced care, and Hackensack Air being returned as the patient was transported by ground.

“We commend our crews for their swift and professional response under difficult circumstances,” said Chief Marino, Fire Chief of the Rombout Fire Company. “The coordinated efforts between our firefighters, EMS, and air medical teams played a vital role in providing immediate and advanced care to those injured.”

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by New York State Police. Traffic in the area was significantly impacted for several hours while emergency crews worked the scene and investigators conducted a thorough investigation. Rombout assisted the NYS police in their investigation with road closure and lighting. Rombout Fire Company cleared the incident at 02:26 AM and reopened the road to traffic.
